A-D is showing an arterial phase contrast enhanced CT with axial slices (A, B) and coronar reconstructions with an extensive PI and PMVG in a 68-year-old patient with an acute embolism (yellow arrow in c) of the superior mesenteric artery (A, C) suffering from ischemia of the small bowel, transverse and ascending colon. Apart from cystic air bubbles within the intestinal wall, note the presence of gas in the mesenteric veins (PVMG) (B/b) and portal veins of the left upper liver lobe (D/d). Explorative laparotomy showed extensive intestinal necrosis. The patient died within 24 h after the CT-examination
