Variations in the grayscale intensity of this tumor are evident. For example, contrast the bright region at the bottom-left to the darker region in the center. The regions of varying intensity are amorphous an diffusely bounded. In the present case, these regions represent the heterogeneous uptake of a radio-labeled glucose analogue (FDG). The vertical edge of this image corresponds to 64 mm. This image is also seen in Figure 4 as panel F1.
